NAACP Comes to President Bush's Rescue

I was happy to see this Hartford Courant article about the NAACP getting involved in Connecticut's lawsuit against the US Department of Education and NCLB. A pleasant surprise was that the NAACP is stepping up on the side of NCLB.

Connecticut's lawsuit against President Bush's school reform act could harm low-income and minority schoolchildren, wastes money and threatens to undermine other civil rights laws, the state NAACP said Monday.

While I was suprised by the NAACP's action, it really does make sense. Before NCLB, schools had no incentive to even look at the performance of minority students. They were getting left behind year after year without any consequences for their schools. I hope this is the first of more efforts by the NAACP to get involved in real school reform.
